Creation and distribution of goods and services Essay
Creation and distribution of goods and services - Essay Example Richard Strong put forward the argument that the proposals would allow the corporation to develop two focused and separate market and product strategies for the market segments. The initial response was guarded, with its advantage being that it would allow the corporation to clarify positioning of its products while aiding Aldus to establish a unique and strong company identity in both market segments. However, the corporation had based its success via the offering of a single product line bridging creative professionals and business. This paper aims to evaluate this proposal. Strongââ¬â¢s proposal to alter the positioning strategy for Aldus As PageMakerââ¬â¢s sophistication grew to meet the high-end userââ¬â¢s evolving needs, the product became more unattractive to the business segment that was not as sophisticated. The primary distribution channels lacked sophistication to lend support to these high-end users, leading Strong to believe that the corporation faced the danger of being unable to serve these two markets. The situation was made worse in the European market by Apple Macintoshââ¬â¢s weak position, which made Aldus depend more PageMakerââ¬â¢s MS-DOS version. ... Trying to meet these segmentââ¬â¢s divergent needs with one product line placed a high demand on software development staff. The productââ¬â¢s complexity would complicate the upgrade task and delay upgrade schedules. Conflict in the corporation arose because the software development staff was oriented to the graphicââ¬â¢s market, while others were oriented to business segments. Both groups could only respond to the needs of their market via a single product. Splitting Aldus into two divisions would allow them to focus on these different market segments. These organizational and product line decisions were made due to what industry executives viewed as polarization of software distribution. Telemarketers, mail order firms and superstores increasingly served the market, with the high-end served by boutiques that had the ability to provide after sales support, consulting, and needs assessment. Hardware sellers were becoming less viable as software dealers. Differences between C onsumer and Organizational Markets The first difference between consumer markets and organizational markets has to do with the nature of purchases (Pride et al, 2012). Organizational consumers buy capital equipment, semi-finished goods and raw materials for utilization in further operations or for reselling to others while final consumers normally acquire finished items for household, family or personal use. Organizational consumers are also more likely to demand exact specifications of products. Final consumers usually buy on a stylistic and descriptive basis. Additionally, organizational consumers usually use multiple buying responsibilities where more than one employee participates in expensive or complex purchase decisions. Consumer markets

Report About Southwest Airlines Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Report About Southwest Airlines - Term Paper Example They had been able to initiate and survive piece wars but as they did forward buying of oil, they are currently at a disadvantage against the competitors. The legacy carriers are now able to offer same fares as SWA as the oil prices have reduced. This strategy of theirs has backfired and they can sustain by further reducing costs or increasing productivity. They have also been accused and penalized for violating safety norms but they have their own clarifications and justifications. SWA continues to be the best run airline but after being market leaders and retaining profits continuously for several years, they now to revise their strategy. Southwest Airlines (SWA) is a benchmark in the industry for continuously maintaining fastest turnarounds, excellent service at lowest fares, on-schedule flights and luggage arrivals, a highly motivated and unionized workforce. In fact the airline achieved success not from economies of scale but because of its workforce (Bacon, 2001). The airline could boast of the lowest operating-cost structure in the domestic airline industry as it consistently offered the lowest and simplest fares. Its strategy through out has been based on exemplary levels of service. The airline encourages leadership and individuality at all levels. It was recognized by the Fortune Magazine as one of the top ten businesses to work for in the US (Achtmeyer, 2002). The Wall Street Journal ranked it first among airlines for customer service satisfaction. SWA started its operations out of Texas in 1971 with three aircrafts and was doing much better than other airlines because of fewer regulations in Texas. SWA grew to be the fourth largest airline in the US and by 2002 had a fleet of 366 Boeing 737 jets. It had 35,000 employees in 2001 and generated total operating revenues of $5.6 billion from a passenger load factor of 68.1 percent. Southwest was the United Statesââ¬â¢ only major

The Benefits of Alternative Medicine over Conventional Medicine Essay
The Benefits of Alternative Medicine over Conventional Medicine à à à à à à à à I used to be like millions of Americans, thinking: "I'm too busy to research alternative health care. I don't even have time to slow down enough to think about it. I know I don't eat right; but there's not enough time to make healthy food. I'm not even sure what is healthy; the "experts" seem to come up with new findings that counter previous ones at least once a week. I rely on my doctor to keep me abreast of any problems; and when one does come up, he has a quick fix for me: antibiotics, anti- depressants, tension relievers, and pills to counter the side effects (like stomach upset, restlessness) caused by the others. I've heard of other "holistic" health care methods, but I'm skeptical of everything, and some of those "alternative" methods sound like "quack" treatments. Besides, I don't have the time or money to go out and learn about or try every one to see if any work. It's much easier to just go to my doctor and walk out with a pill; and I am qu ickly back in the rat race, which I don't necessarily like, but I do have to keep working." à à à à à à à à Now, along with a growing number of concerned people, my thinking has changed. I can't believe what is going on in this country. I can't believe I grew up learning to trust the medical industry when they aren't just concerned with my health; they're more concerned with profits. Learning about healthier ways to live was so time consuming, because I had patterns that took a lifetime to develop that were unhealthy. Had I been raised to live a healthy life and know about my body and what it needs, the process would have been natural and actually taken up less time; like recycling, it seems like such a time ... ...mily guide to homeopathy. People Commit Crime for Selfish Reason Essay
Last week, when I was on the way to school and suddenly I heard a girl screaming for help. Then, I straight away went to look for her. I was shocked when I witnessed a girl was being robbed by a man. This gave me a whole idea of crime awareness which is alarming in the country. In this modernization and globalization era, people go against the laws to commit the immoral activities such as kidnapping, murdering and drug dealing because they are self-centered and they do not care about othersââ¬â¢ feelings. Thus, do you think it is right to commit crime for selfish reasons? In my opinion, I totally agree that people commit crime for selfish reason or for their own benefits because they are craving for money, want to fulfill their lust or jealousy and to survive in their life. First, I would like to highlight that people commit crime for selfish reasons because they craving for money. In this rat race society, people tend to commit crimes to get more money because they want to increase the standard of their living such as having a luxurious life. Unfortunately, some people can make it but some people fail. If they cannot make it plus they are uneducated or with low paid salary, they will tend to commit crimes such as embezzlement and bribery. This is due to the reason, people will be looked up by others based on their well off appearance, for instance, luxurious car and branded bags will upgrade their status. Consequently, if they are having strong desire to have more money, they will tend to go against the laws and get involved in many illegal activities like robbery. Besides, they do not care about others and they just want to get more money to enjoy their luxurious life. In brief, commiting crimes for money is a selfish action. Another point that I would like to highlight in this phenomenan of people commiting crime for selfish reason is because they want to fulfill their lust or jealousy. If people are feeling very lonely and they have strong desire to do some immoral activities such as sexual harrasment towards a girl by force. For example, when men see sexy and attractive girls walking on the pathway, they are being tempted and this will urge them to harrass those girls. This is because they want to vent their emotion and fulfill their lust and they do not care about othersââ¬â¢ feelings. Besides, people tend to commit crimes to fulfill their lust such as raping or killing people for excitement. If people are emotionally sick or pervert and get involved in triangle love such as when two girls are in love with the same guy, both of them might feel jealous with each other and end up with fighting. If this matter turns serious, it might also end up with a murder case. The girl is willing to murder the other girl, so that she can own the guy all for herself. Hence, commiting crimes for fulfilling their lust or jealousy is a self-centered action. Last but not least, I would like to highlight that people commit crime for their own benefits because they want to survive in their life. Without any educational background, they could not get a proper job to sustain a living in the high cost standard in the city. As a result, this will lead them to commit crimes such as kidnapping and robbery to survive. Besides, they need food, shelter and other physical needs of life that lead them to commit crime for their own survival. Thus, they care less about the cosequences of their action and even ignore the pain of the victims from the actions that they have done. Other than that, some people are lazy to work for their life and always think about to go for an easy way so that they will tend to commit crimes for their self-centered reasons for instance stealing, break-in houses and car thieves. Therefore, commiting crimes for survival in their life is a selfish action. In conclusion, I restate my stand that people commit crimes for their own purposes. Their selfish action is due to craving for money, fulfilling their lust or jealousy and surviving in their life. All of these are also not a good excuse for commiting crimes and these problems have to be resolved as soon as possible which needs the co-operation between the government and citizen of Malaysia.

Eugenics A Controversial Science Essay examples - 1160 Words
Eugenics has been a very controversial science that has existed in the world for centuries. Eugenics is defined as ââ¬Å"the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)(Dictionary.com, 2005).â⬠Its base came from the idea that the human race could be ââ¬Å"perfectedâ⬠by getting rid of its undesirable traits and the desirable ones could be multiplied. Physical appearance, IQ, and social capacity could be controlled in humans just asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦When Adolf Hitler learned of the theory of eugenics, he took Darwinââ¬â¢s phrase ââ¬Å"survival of the fittestâ⬠to a completely new level. Hitler, and many other people of that time, took the term ââ¬Å"survival of the fittestâ⬠and defined ââ¬Å"the fittestâ⬠as the strongest, smartest and most cunning individuals of a species. Through Darwinââ¬â¢s evolutionary theory, ââ¬Å"the fittestâ⬠refers to the individuals that have the combination of traits to allow them to survive and produce more offspring in their particular environment. This may not be the strongest, smartest or most cunning individual. In fact it may be the weakest, smallest, least intelligent being, but it po ssesses the best combination of traits and characteristics for it and its offspring to flourish in a particular environment (Oââ¬â¢Neil, 2010). Nazi Germany took Darwinââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"survival of the fittestâ⬠phrase in a literal sense and stated that one of their main goals was to apply this ââ¬Å"accepted scienceâ⬠to society. The Nazis became well-known for engineering eugenics programs which would maintain and protect their ââ¬Å"pureâ⬠and ââ¬Å"perfectâ⬠German race. These programs were justified by the Nazis as ââ¬Å"racial hygiene (Holocaust Encyclopedia, 2010).â⬠The German Nazis, also referred to as the Aryan race, felt that their evolutionary superiority gave them not only the right, but the duty and responsibility to overthrow all other races. The Partys Domestic And Foreign Policy - 1232 Words
Neoconservativism has been defined as a political movement born in the United States during the 1960ââ¬â¢s among Democrats who became disenchanted with the party s domestic and especially foreign policy. That is a fine definition if one grew up in that era and understood what was going on, or if everyone knew what the parties domestic and foreign policies were. However, not everyone can lay claim to either of those options as true to them. So one must take the time to understand the rise of this conservative movement. Once the understanding is established, you must be able to participate in polite happy hour conversation. Such as, what lead to the rise of conservatism, how it impacted the nation and how it is continuing to impact the nation?â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦While the sixties is often painted with the hippie and free love movement there was also a less publicized string of young conservatives popping up everywhere. These conservatives were anti-communism and against b ig government, they believed in the free market. Lyndon Johnson was elected President in 1964, by a landslide. He was practically unopposed. Barry Goldwater was his competitor, and while Johnson had the JFK assassination on his side, it was Goldwaterââ¬â¢s crazy ideas about the Cold War that really made him so undesirable among the people. Extremism just wasnââ¬â¢t okay with the people. An important piece of all this information is that the Democrats won the votes of the ââ¬Å"Solid Southâ⬠during that election, which previously had been dependably Republican states. Race may be one of the largest factors for this. Democrats traditionally had been supporters of the Civil Rights movement, which caused many white southerners to abandon the Democratic Party. With the ââ¬Å"southern strategyâ⬠the white men that left the Democratic Party were swo oped up and now a part of the Republican Party. Nixon was the Tough on Crime candidate, he also had the anti-hippie movement, the moral conservatives, and the anti-Civil Rights people. The Downfall Of Julius Caesar - 1356 Words
When historians think of the ancient Rome, one name is the first to pop into the mind; Caesar. Undoubtedly one of the most consequential men to have ever lived, Julius Caesar left a lasting legacy of military and political domination. Caesarââ¬â¢s assassination sent shockwaves throughout Rome and its territories, leaving many to question what man could and would take the late leaderââ¬â¢s place. Many men vied for the most powerful position in the ancient world, but only one man could win this struggle. Gaius Octavius, Caesar s great nephew and adoptive son quickly usurped the dictators role and cemented his power through both military battles and political nuance. Augustus, a calculating individual, secured his troops loyalty by paying a ââ¬Å"â⬠¦enormous bonus of almost ten yearsââ¬â¢ salaryâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . Octavian clearly had a larger plan, and was aware that he could not just defeat Antony without being threatened by the senate himself. Octavian then employed his diplomatic skills to form the second triumvirate. While a shaky alliance, both of them understood the greater goal and glory of avenging Caesarââ¬â¢s death. Appian, a Greek historian writes of the second triumvirate and quoted its proscription which stated ââ¬Å"So let it be then! Let no one harbor any one of those whose names are hereto appended, or conceal them, or send them away or be corrupted by their money. Whoever shall be detected in saving or aiding or conniving with them we will put on the list of proscribed without allowing any excuse or pardon.â⬠Here, Octavian and Antony issued a joint warning to both the senators who murdered Caesar as well as those who would dare to shelter the conspirators.
